Community Christian Church began serving San Pedro and the Peninsula in 1922 as First Christian Church. In those days the church was connected with the Disciples of Christ. The congregation built the new building on Summerland Street in 1962. Approximately 15 years ago the church voted to leave the denomination and become what it is today–independent, evangelical, and Bible based. Community has a congregational form of government. The elders and pastor make decisions on which the congregational membership vote. Elders meet on a monthly basis.
What We Believe
Our Mission:
To build a passion for knowing God, and to tell others about Jesus.
Our Vision:
To be a community church encompassing the diversity of people on the peninsula; to help us develop in knowledge and commitment so we can reach our maximum potential in Christ; to use the Bible as our only authority with practical and in depth teaching, and to enjoy freedom on matters of opinion.
We will accomplish this through contemporary and enthusiastic worship that enhances the experience of God, traditional and reverent worship that glorifies the majesty of God.
Our Values:
The Community Christian Church purpose requires us to value the following Biblical principles.
A. Mission
To communicate the message of Christ
You will be my witness…to the ends of the earth.
Acts 1:8
B. Glory of God
To celebrate God’s presence
But you are chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.
I Peter 2:9
C. Membership
To connect God’s family
Let us not give up meeting together …but let us encourage one another …
Hebrews 10:25
You are a member of God’s own family, and you belong in God’s household with every other Christian.
Ephesians 2:19
D. Maturity
To educate God’s people
We proclaim Him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.
Colossians 1:28
E. Ministry
To demonstrate God’s love
All Scripture is … to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.
Ephesians 4:12
